Mishkin, are an up-and-coming Leeds band with plenty of following stretching throughout the UK. Jonny has been asked to help for a couple of gigs after their throne-sitting-bone-shaking-drummer boy Bradie, broke his hand in what was believed to be a drunken fall down some stairs.

PlayRecord hopes that Mr Bradie’s hand will be better soon and that our in house drummer, Jonny, will soon return to his usual early nights and bright eyed enthusiasm at work when the toll of rocking-out with a heavy metal band comes to an end.

The Swollen Pickle Jumbo Fuzz The most sought after and corpulent Way Huge pedal is back! The Swollen Pickle MkII surrenders super high-gain fuzz with copious amounts of smooth low-end to all who dare plug into it.

The KBA10 of the Kustom X series is Kustom’s entry level bass amplifier and it’s a perky little thing. First impressions out of the box are that it’s clearly a well made little box, weighing in at just over six kilograms it’s a sturdy little thing. When you’ve been to enough trade shows you’ll realise that this is something that Kustom pride themselves in and thankfully have extended right down to their entry level amps.

The controls consist of quite simply; Volume, Bass, Mid and Treble. These are all mounted on a polished chrome control panel, sporting damn shiny knobs.

To give the amp a road test I used a Yahama Bass at around the £200 mark. Plugging in, first impressions are, this amp is very hasty. But after all, it is very small. It’s perky to say the least, possibly to make up for not having a gain control (i’m guessing), the amp goes ballistic after the volume is raised above a third. This isn’t a problem however as there is plenty of area to play with in this bottom third that any bedroom rocker would find quite satisfying and with some tone control tweaking there’s a good variety of clean tones to find. When the volume passes half way the amp enters the dark realms of overdriven, overloaded small amp and you may need to shower afterwards. This sound is pretty filthy and I’m sure there are plenty of leather wearing, safety pin through the eyeball types who would love it.

To sum up, there are practice bass amps out there that are cheaper, but they really can’t compete with the Kustom build quality. The amp provides a suprising amount of bass for such a small thing, due to the sturdy box. It provides enough volume for the solo practising mature player and enough volume for the young beginner to get shouted at by their parents (thankfully there is a headphone socket so that’s OK).

London International Music Show is 4 shows in one; London Guitar show, Drummer Live, Unplugged and the Sound Recording & Technoligy show all under one roof and one ticket gets you into all shows.

The show promises all the lastest gear and technology with siminars, conferences and even celebrities of the music world. You can expect to see exhibitors from “Acoustic Guitar Magazine” through to “Yamaha Music UK”, and instruments from xylaphones to bassoons.

On the Live stage you can see Paul gilbert playing on saturday for the London Guitar show, Chad smith will be beating them skins for the Drummer live line-up, and the list goes on….

Construction wise starting at the top, the headstock sports big elephant ear machine heads with open backs which reveal large well machined cogs.

The bolt-on neck is reasonably slim, though not as slim as a standard P-Bass. The fretboard is constructed from a fine piece of rosewood and features twenty one very highly polished well seated frets which are a joy to play on.

The body is quite large and contributes to a nicely rounded sound and the black metallic finish is refreshingly subtle. The pickup selector switch is interestingly placed at the bottom right of the bass near to the jack input. This is surprisingly easy to get to and in little danger of getting knocked whilst playing.

If I was to guess the price of this bass I would say around the £400 mark. However it retails for £299 though it is available for £239. Which is very reasonable considering that this bass is definitely not a bottom midrange bass as the price suggests. It is definitely a lot of bang for your buck!

The rumor of a STP reunion had been circulating for some time since reported problems in Velvet Revolver rose up again, which also coincided with Scott Weiland reconciling with Robert and Dean Deleo, who were also the main songwriters with Stone Temple Pilots. Stone Temple Pilots broke through in 1992 with the release of their debut album ‘Core’ which has since gone 8 times Platinum on the strength of the single ‘Plush.’ Stone Temple Pilots released their last full length studio album ‘Shangri-La Dee Da’ in 2001 and the fans have been wondering if Scott and the Deleo brothers could ever reform.

While Weiland formed Velvet Revolver with former members of Guns N Roses and the Deleo brothers went on to release an album under the name Army of Anyone, it seems STP fans can finally get excited about the certain. We caught up with Robert Deleo recently at an Army of Anyone show to find out how he feels about Stone Temple Pilots long list of accomplishments and if there were any hard feelings between him and Weiland.

“You know, I haven’t seen Scott in awhile. I wish him the best and there’s no hard feelings at all. We just kind of moved on and I’m very proud of what we did.”

In 2006 Scott Weiland was questioned if he could see a Stone Temple Pilots reunion in the future and he stated “the only thing that’s left unfinished is the completion of the story. If all the planets lined up, you never know what might happen one day,” implying that the end of the bands story had yet to be written. Recently, current Velvet Revolver and former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash, who is currently working on a solo album, mentioned a Guns N Roses and Stone Temple Pilots reunion tour wouldn’t be impossible to happen. Although anything that would involve Axl Rose certainly wouldn’t be easy to make possible. Look for Stone Temple Pilots to confirm their plans for in the coming months.
