PlayRecord Resident Drummer Helps out Leeds Metal Band, Mishkin

October 29th, 2010 by jonny

In house drum dude “Jonny-the-Blow” has been coming into work bleary-eyed this week. No, not from excessive partying but from cramming new songs into his head every evening for the last week and a bit to help out our friends and local ultimate-metal band, Mishkin.

Mishkin, are an up-and-coming Leeds band with plenty of following stretching throughout the UK. Jonny has been asked to help for a couple of gigs after their throne-sitting-bone-shaking-drummer boy Bradie, broke his hand in what was believed to be a drunken fall down some stairs.

PlayRecord hopes that Mr Bradie’s hand will be better soon and that our in house drummer, Jonny, will soon return to his usual early nights and bright eyed enthusiasm at work when the toll of rocking-out with a heavy metal band comes to an end.

December 10th, 2008 by jonny

Howdy folks! Christmas is coming up quickly and if you, like me no matter what I say every year leave all shopping to the last minute, then it’s time to get it done! …. no Christmas eve – impulse buy – petrol-station gifts this year!

We have been adding products to the special offer page for a few days now and there’s some cracking deals. A couple of my favourites are the two Pearl kits, these are at an exceptionally good price for the standard of kit you are getting (read my Pearl blog for more info). Of course, we have great deals for guitarist’s; acoustic, electric and basses hugely discounted. Many small accessories have been dropped in price, quite a few useful cables and all those little plugs and adaptors you didn’t realise you needed.

As we are getting so close to Christmas, to guarantee your delivery in time give us a call to check stock availability or alternatively check the product your looking at, as they will say ‘in stock – next day delivery’

Happy Shopping!

Product Review: Kustom KP80 P.A System

March 12th, 2008 by jonny

Perfect for smaller audiences the 80 Watt Kustom KPA80 has the power and flexibility needed to meet a wide variety of sound reinforcement needs. Four channels, reverb and tone controls provide the tools needed to fine-tune the sound for any application.

Out of the box this system takes a couple of minutes to set up. Included are 2x mic’s with XLR cables to plug into the amp, 2x speakers with 12″ cones and a power amplifier with four inputs. The amp is rated at 80 watts (rms) with 2x 8 ohm outputs. The speakers are rated at 60 watts (rms) with 8ohm impedance and a frequency response of 75hz-18khz.

Once plugged in and set up, the system kicks out some volume without loss of clarity. Noticeably, it’s lacking some low end. To overcome this we plugged a 15″ kustom wedge monitor in as a slave unit and that seemed to do the job, but was not necessary.

Due to its smaller speaker drivers and the 80w amp, you would not want to use this as your sound reinforcement rig at big show. This system would be happier in the corner of your local pub or cummunity hall, possibly blasting out the best hits from the 80’s or the local folk singer and his acoustic guitar.

So, build quality. Corner protectors as standard on the speakers and the amp. The speakers do feel reasonably heavy and quite rugged, so you wouldn’t be afraid of throwing them in the back of the van with fear of them falling to pieces. A case or soft bag would not go a-miss for the amp however.
Leads and mic’s that come with the package are generic but do the job, upgrading speaker cables always makes an improvement on sound quality.

The conclusion,

A great portable (within reason) P.A system. Ideal for a working solo artist playing small venues, just as suitable for the bedroom or mobile DJ playing to a hall of 100 people.

New Departments

September 7th, 2007 by PlayRecord.Net Management

Hi there and welcome to the first post on the PlayRecord.Net Blog.

We have been working hard this year improving the site, updating all of the products and checking all those prices. Probably the biggest development though is the addition of a new departments system. This has allowed us to branch out from our core business of guitars, drums and other musical instruments and start to offer a Smoke Machinecomprehensive range of music books and just recently, electrical items such as speakers, plugs, lights etc. Got an amp that has a blown speaker? Fancy spicing up your live performance with some lights or even a smoke machine?

Keep checking back as we are going to be adding more and more great items to the site as time goes on. Soon we really will be a one stop shop for all of your music and gigging needs.

Thanks for reading ;-)
